Ms Raja Sebihi : Professor at Mohamed V University, Faculty of Sciences in Rabat, specializing in medical physics.
My career in medical physics has been a long and fulfilling journey. I was the first medical physicist in the country specializing in nuclear medicine and medical imaging, and I am proud to have contributed significantly to the development of this field in Morocco.
My expertise has allowed me to work closely with international organizations, particularly as an IAEA Expert in nuclear medicine. I also served as the National Coordinator for various medical physics projects with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), focusing on medical imaging and nuclear medicine.
Before transitioning to academia, I dedicated 20 years of my career as a Medical Physicist at the Nuclear Medicine Service Ibn Sina Hospital in Rabat, where I gained invaluable hands-on experience in patient care, radiation safety, quality assurance, and waste management.
My academic journey began at Mohamed V University, where I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Physics in 1992, followed by a thesis in physics in 1996. I then had a specialized Master’s in Medical Physics in 2009, and a Doctorate in Medical Physics in 2014 from the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy. Over the years, I have pursued continuous learning, engaging in numerous training programs on internal dosimetry, quality assurance in imaging, and radiation protection.
Beyond my work in hospitals and academia, I have been actively involved in research and publications. My studies in nuclear medicine dosimetry and radiological exposure have been featured in esteemed journals. I have also contributed to educational materials, including brochures published by the IAEA to promote the role of medical physicists in safe medical imaging.
One of my greatest passions is knowledge sharing, which is why I have organized and participated in numerous national and international conferences, workshops, and scientific days. I have also been part of major international collaborations. I’m the convener of the medical physics group of the African strategy of Fundamental Physics and Application (ASFAP).
As a member of various scientific committees, I actively advocate for the advancement of medical physics education, training, and professional development in Morocco. My work has been dedicated to bridging the gap between academia and clinical practice, ensuring that medical physicists are well-equipped to support patient care through advanced technologies and methodologies.
Medical physics is not just my profession; it is my lifelong commitment. I believe that by fostering education, research, and collaboration, we can continue to enhance patient safety and treatment outcomes in medical imaging and nuclear medicine.
